I finished all these this morning. The best part is that you can have it! Lately I've seen giveaways almost everywhere in the blogosphere, so now it's my turn to spread the love. Just leave a comment telling me what would your perfect journal be like. I'll make my DH draw three random names on Sunday June 15th, around 10am. Two daisy brooches and a small notebook are waiting for their new owners!

The notebook is approx. 4.3"x5.3"x0.6" (11x13,5x1,5cm) with 48 thick white pages, and the brooches are 1.8"(4,5cm) in diameter.
Today's post over at Poppytalk is about two wonderful Finnish bloggers - Savilintu and Puhti. You can read about my endless admiration for them in here.

It is a good day! My ideal journal would be just like your bud journal..it is absolutely lovely.
my ideal journal would come complete with beautiful illustrations, paint chip samples, fabric swatches, threads and a lovely daisy cover just like yours!
Good day Kaija,
Just read through your post on Poppytalk, the two bloggers you mentioned are very inspiring. Thanks so much for sharing them with us. As to what my favourite journal would be like, handmade is a must, and envelopes and/or an inner pocket or two. Of course there would be literary quotes and sketches randomly interspersed throughout the pages. Your creations are just lovely! Wishing you a wonder filled day,
Melanie
Hello Kaija!
Another beautiful creation from you. My ideal journal would be handmade and one of a kind. It would speak to me, as any place of secrets does to one that finds it. It would also contain a natural element - seaglass, bark, stone. Your linen books are amazing!
hi kaija, an ideal journal for me would be one thats simple but beautiful, like that really pretty bud one :)
You know, I love the beginning and ends of my journals. I love them when they're empty and waiting for me to fill the pages. People have usually bought me a journal they think I'd like, or I see one and tuck it away for later use. But, I also love it when I get to the last page and they're bulging with pics and ideas and thoughts and feelings I couldn't share elsewhere and dripping with finds I've plucked from something or somewhere - feathers, leaves, business cards, anything flatish that can be tucked in between the sheets to find later. Oh, I could go on. Does anyone know some good books about journals. The angsty loved ones, not the scrapbook neat ones?
an (not necessarily my) ideal journal would be never-ending. that is, the pages never end but it never feels like a thick journal either. it's just a magical thing where i can open the journal and there it would be a fresh new page to write, yet still compact to carry around. that would be ideal! then, rather than having a collection of journals, you'd always have the one to keep everything inside. like a life journal.
I can't believe I've only just discovered you!! :)
My ideal journal would be small, a linen cover with a painted/printed/stencilled tree with a bird in perhaps or just leaves, linen textured paper would be amazing and I love Katie's idea of little pockets on the inside of the cover! I'm always doodling on little scraps of paper when I've lost my journal and need to keep them all somewhere safe!
My perfect journal...
Handmade of course.
Linen and leather bound in black or burgundy. with a moulded spine.
Slightly textured, creamy vanilla coloured pages. Deckled or torn edges. Best nice and thick to withstand a bit of watercolouring.
Binding extra wide to allow room for things to be stuck in.
A fat ribbon bookmark or two.
Not too perfect, so that I'm not held back when it comes to actually using it.
My ideal journal would be anything made by you. I trust your taste so much :)
Hello, journals are one of my favorite things. My perfect journal would be handmade of many colors in subdued tones to inspire creative thinking and hopefully the writing part! big hug.
Good day indeed! My *perfect* journal would be large with unlined pages for my endless doodling. I'm not too concerned with the cover but it'd also be rad if it featured a spiral so that laying it flat was not an issue. That said, being the journal hound that I am, I won not a single one in the style I layed out so it should be obvious that darn near any journal is perfectly fine with me :)
First of all: Kiitos kauniista ja ylenpalttisita sanoista poppy talkissa. Siis huh, kiitos.
Thank you for the overwhelmingly kind words ower at poppy talk. Wow. Huh.
And then: My perfect journal would be linen, indigo blue, that kind of stiching as on the back as in those daffodil books in the picture. The stiching maybe in black, i´m not sure. Very thick pages, aquarelpaper.
And on the cover, if ornaments, then some round, pebblekind of abstract round/oval shapes. Something like those brooches you made a while ago.
And yes, not a very big book.
This is so beautiful.
My perfect journal would have graph pages so I could write neatly but also doodle designs and knitting charts out. I'm not too picky as to exteriors but I'm partial to fabric rather than leather or moleskin.
my favorit journals have always been simple, cloth bound, cardboard covered, blank paged, and thick. love how these look after they've been carried around in your satchel. ps, love the tree idea on the cover like you put on your pouches - which my iPod loves very much btw!
best,
em
My perfect journal would actually make me want to journal!! Something very earthy and organic looking.
Aaaaaaah!! Journals! Here is my ideal dream journal:
1) about 10x15 cm
2) enough pages! (about 60-80)
3) I love lined pages - even for pics
4) pockets on inside covers for business cards, tickets, stamps...
5) a beautiful cover that inspires me
6) a bookmark of some sort
7) something to keep it shut, e.g. elastic or tie
8) spine to allow for some bulging (i tend to stick in adverts, pics etc).
There you have it!
oh I am a journal junkie... okay here is what i look for
* i am loving lined paper right now... it seems to compel me to write
* not too small, but not gigantic either, I look for journals that can be added into my normal life oh and I like it to be thick, none of this here is just 10 pages to write in!
* earthy in feel and design
* okay, this last one is awful i know (don't gasp too loud) but I really prefer spiral bound... I am a lefty and I tend to break the binding a lot...
Lovely work.
My perfect journal- what a fun thing to think about.
I think it would be on the small side, so it would be easy to carry, and would have all sorts of different paper in it. It would be pretty and have a place for a pen,a sewn-in bookmark, and an elastic to hold it shut like a moleskine.
My ideal journal would look natural on the outside (covered in cloth, leather, or a natural hue of paper) and would be bursting with inspiration on the inside! Magazine cutouts, fortunes from fortune cookies, drawings I make of people in the library, spontaneous poems friends write for me... In fact, I'm going to start my ideal journal right now. (But it wouldn't hurt to have a pretty backup journal just in case I fill this one all the way...)
My percect journal would be nice to touch, so that I love to take it in my hands and write in it and the pages should open flat so I could scribble easily and comfortably. (Actually a perfect journal should be plain and not such beauties as your creations are, so no uninvited person would be tempt to read it.)
I love to read your blog!
my ideal journal is something simple, but beautiful. Mostly, handmade because its environmentally friendly, and it gives the old look to it so when you keep it for a long time.. it looks vintage :)
btw, your notebooks are fabulous!<3
Nice question. My perfect journal would be handmade, covered in rough linen or other natural fabric. With a simple beautiful print on the front. The paper would be quite thick, a mid tone greyish beige to give nice contrast with light and dark paint or pencil. Maybe a few dark grey pages scattered throughout.
Definitely not too perfect. Its looks would improve by being beaten up at the bottom of my bag, having coffee spilt on it...
so many wonderful ideas in your comments section.
for me?
hmmm.
i would like 2. one big. one small.
an elastic or other closure so i can jam scraps and tearouts in, lovely thick watercolour paper, some different coloured papers, natural textures and finishes. and definitely one of your lovely handbound ones. perhaps charcoal or a dark natural linen.
heaven itself. :)
hmm my dream journal...
would have a linen cover, because I love the touch of the fabric, reminds me of my grandma's beautiful dresses... inside, all kinds of papers - thick, watercolor, lined, coloured, found paper... so I would never be bored! :) papers, colors and textures inspire me.
you work and your blog are beautiful, thanks for sharing!
Hello!
My perfect journal would be small and sturdy enough to carry everywhere with me with blank beautiful paper. Sometimes the sturdy ones are not beautiful so one that combines both would be fantastic. I love black and grey and your screenprints are so lovely!
Your work is so serene - beautiful. thank you
Lovely notebook!!
My ideal journal would be quite small with a beautiful picture on its cover. Pages would be made of blank, recycled paper. I carry a journal in my bag everyday so my ideal journal has to be durable.
Täydellinen muistikirja olisi paksu, kaunis, käytännöllinen ja ainutlaatuinen; aivan niinkuin muistikirjojen sisällötkin!
My ideal journal would have a hard cover, and feel good to touch. I would need to be covered in something that looks better as it ages - not something that needs to be kept clean! And bound so that there's room for expansion; it should look like there are too few pages when in it's new, so that it can handle having notes stuck on to almost every single page. Or pockets inside the covers that can be filled to bursting.
Hello! I've enjoyed your posts over at Poppytalk. Yummy question! My perfect journal: durable cover, nice rough tactile cloth in a pale green/blue or neutral colour (not black). A cover design that calms but is still suggestive to the creative impulse... Unbleached natural-coloured paper, slight texture, thick enough for sketching and heavy ink, not so thick that you can't have many many pages. Deckled-edged paper because I love the way a stack of it looks. Lays flat when open. And I love exposed spine. Yup.
I think the best journals look like individuals, and are beautiful and hardy but not intimidating with their fineness. You can't be afraid to use them or to set down anything that's less than perfect in them. They're meant to be part of a living creative process after all. :)
Ihannemuistikirjani, valkoiset sivut ilman viivoja tms. siis aika pieni ja aika ohut - liian paksut on tylsiä, kun ehtii jo kyllästyä kansiin ennenkuin on käytetty loppuun. Ihanat nuo rintarossitkin ;)
Very pretty! My ideal journal would have the exposed spine, torn edges, a little bit of orange w/ a print of a bird or ginkgo leaf.
i have been so enjoying your posts over at poppytalk!
your work is gorgeous...
my ideal journal would have thick, unlined pages and would lay flat so that i could easily write and sketch in it. i love handmade journals because you have the energy and love the artist put into the journal with you as you fill it with your secrets, hopes, stories, and ideas...
Ideal would start with the right colour cover, something quite beautiful, a deep plum, a sage green or a mushroom grey.
The journal would lay flat or even open on itself so I can prop it on my knees and sketch. There might be some lined pages to write lists or ideas. There could be some different colour/texture pages to stand as markers or chapters and a ribbon to keep my page. Oh and one of your beautiful images on the front :-)
It has 2 feel lusious. lots texture to hold on to and stand out so it doesnt get lost. and beautiful of course.
the perfect journal:
empty - ready to be cracked open and filled at any notice...but then again...full - full of a month's thoughts, a year's worth of heartbreaks or one could see it also as a full life.
My ideal journal contains handmade flax paper, linen cover, fits well and feels right in my hands, opens flat, and is thick.
I love the 60s look of your daisies. I had them on my shoes back then.
That journal is adorable and sweet...I love the grey and yellow combo.
My perfect journal would be frayed and full of hopes and dreams that actually played out in real life by the time it was filled to the last page. There would be doodles and things crossed out along the way.
But in the end it would tell an amazing story. A simple life story of creativity, beauty and Hope.
Love your work!
a perfect journal for me would be small enough to carry around comfortably, but big enough to get some good sketches done. It would also have lots of pockets to holds clippings and other ephemera that I come across. And it would be sturdy, as I've been known to get a little rough with notebooks!
thanks for offering this, it's really beautiful!
every journal is perfect. i would love it if the pages can be removed and all the pages are different.
